It’s Sunday. Have a comic. Sorry about how small the images are, tumblr only allows 10 pics per image post and this thing went out to 16 instead.
There’s a hi-res version posted in a dropbox album if you’d like to see it bigger.
I hope you enjoy!
This has been like 99% done for a while, just needing the last few drawings. I’ve mixed feelings about it. I still like the stylistic tricks I learned doing it, and I’m still fond of the formal silliness in how I worked the free association into something vaguely resembling world-building.
I have an old book whose title is (I swear):
"Livingstone’s Africa. Perilous Adventures and Extensive Discoveries in the Interior of Africa, from the Personal Narrative of David Livingstone, LL.D., D.C.L., together with the Remarkable Success and Important Results of the Herald-Stanley Expedition, as Furnished by H.M. Stanley ESQ., Special Correspondent of the New York Herald.
A Complete and Reliable Graphic History of the Extensive Explorations, Important Discoveries and Thrilling Adventures of the Greatest Exporer of Modern Times, in the Richest and Wildest country upon the Face of the Earth..”
It goes on like that for a while. I couldn’t be bothered to transcribe all the silliness. You can read it here if you want. I wanted to do a riff on that weird pompous bullshit, while free-associating my way through abstract drawings, a lightly syncopated grid and a very loose improvised narrative. I think I did okay, all things considered. I learned a lot on this one, that’s for sure.
I’ll have a full spread-by-spread teardown up tomorrow sometime, taking the scalpel to myself, best as I can.
